For the benefit of all staff members of nursing facilities, we created a practical and effective tool to help prevent difficult behaviours related to dementia. The "Life Story Card Holder" is used to ensure and coordinate the consistency and continuity of the client-based approach. More and more nurses prescribe the use of "Life Story Cards" in their units for their residents with dementia.
Having on hand a summary of the life story of your residents written on small cards will make it easier for staff members to establish a positive contact with them during the less pleasant moments of daily care. Knowing positive details about the life story of your residents will help the staff prompt personalized conversations that will have the anxious client feel more comfortable and collaborative and reduce the onset of difficult behaviours related to dementia, such as aggressiveness and restlessness.
These cards can also be used to write in red things "NOT TO DO" with particular residents.
You can also use the cards to write different words in a foreign language that will certainly make the conversation easier with people from diverse ethnic communities.
Alternatively, you can write words or insert images in the card holder to communicate with your aphasic residents. The Life Story Card Holder will adapt to all your particular needs.
